Ride For the Cure® - North Texas

Benefiting the North Texas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Come ride with us on OCTOBER 30, 2010, Our 2nd Annual Ride Event

Thank you and Congratulations to each of you who rode with us last year and to those of who volunteered and those who sponsored the event...

We were able to donate to the North Texas Affiliate over $55,000 at the
2009 Ride For The Cure
.

The North Texas Ride for the Cure is proud to be an official event for the North Texas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Join us at Tadra, in the LBJ / Caddo National Grasslands, Decatur, Texas. The Grasslands offer marked trails (50+ miles) for riders with mostly sandy terrain, conducive for horses and no motorized vehicles are allowed off road.

This ride site is the only urban national grasslands and extends over 20,000 + acres located in Wise County, just north of the city of Decatur, Texas. It is managed by the U. S. Forest Service and contains 400 ponds and a couple of larger lakes. The terrain of high plateaus, piney and broadleaf forests, creek beds, open grasslands, prairies and rolling hills provide an ideal venue for the Annual Ride For The Cure, North Texas.

The flora and fauna create an ever-changing landscape and support the natural wildlife of deer, wild turkey, bobcats, quail and other fowl. Atop many plateaus are seashells and other fossils, evidence of a former home to ocean beds. Because the LBJ / Caddo Grasslands are located near an urban area, all of the amenities of “City Life” are within a 40-60 minute drive.

What better way to spend an autumn day than on your horse surrounded by fascinating, unblemished country side? And even better, riding for a cause that will, unfortunately, touch us all in some way. One in eight women in the United States is a victim of breast cancer. Thanks to public awareness and support for research, early detection now means a cure for many women. But much still needs to be done.

Honorary Event Chairman - Roy Cooper

We are proud to announce our honorary event chairman, Roy Cooper, World Champion Calf Roper.

Roy Cooper began his career as the 1976 Rookie of the Year and was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame just three years later. Throughout three decades, he broke every roping record in the books, claiming eight world titles in calf roping, steer roping and all-around categories, and joining an elite group of athletes who’ve won the 10-head championship at the NFR in two different events.
